Sonshine
Kingdom Training
By Sherrie Keely

Have you ever noticed how these hot, muggy days of summer scream "come on, let's hang out today!"?

I recall, back in the 60's, how my dad, after a long, weary day at work, would venture down and tote his lawn chair to the town square where the sound of a highpitched, whiney auctioneer seemed to echo for miles. As multiple cards bounced up and down like roller coasters, each person hoped to win a grand prize.

I, on the other hand, enjoyed this time by the huge fountain perched in back of the auctioneer platform. There, the waters glimmered and danced while displaying an array of multiple hues. The colors seemed to invite each of us kids to grab sticks to which we fastened ABC (already-beenchewed) gum to one end and proceed to fish for the "catch of the night," which was usually a fifty-cent piece.

But, like all good times and stories, one night Buddy, the town sheriff, tapped our shoulders informing us he might just have to haul us in, handcuffs and all, unless we changed our ways.

I call this the "Fear-of-God Routine." To this very day I believe that close call might have been God's way of helping me stay on the straight and narrow. So thanks to all you"Buddy's" who care enough to speak the truth of God into young folks' lives.

Proverbs 22:6 says "train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he shall not depart from it."
