In addition to being the lucky number for couples getting married, this week, commissioners hope that the seventh time will be the charm for the ongoing saga of construction bidding for the county's new DOT building at the judicial center site. Buchanan and Sons pitched the lowest bid (a hefty $210,065) of three this time around, and is currently under inspection by the state department to see if all criteria are met. Commissioners granted authority on the project to County Manager Paul Leek.
"I reccomend we enter into contract with Mr. [Robbie] Hodge to get irrigation into the new courthouse facility," Leek said. Hodge was just one of two bids for the irrigation project, and presented individual health needs accurately and completely.
a bid of $6,985.
Leek said Hodge would begin work in two weeks and take ten days to complete the task, reminding commissioners that the completion date for the new system would be the end of July and that the loan taken out would expire in one more year. "It needs to be in before we open up for business," he said.
Despite failing to be the lowest bidder, landscaping company Lush Scapes met the criteria to spice up the natural beauty of the new judicial center.
Leek said that the job will take three weeks to complete and that "we need to get him started two weeks ago."
Leek told commissioners that telephone giant Verizon began installing phone lines to the courthouse early the day of the meeting and that paving would commence mid-July. He said that a final walkthrough would occur July 11 before the building would be cleared for final preparations.
Concern was announced over stains on exterior concrete at the building site that were apparently the cause of masonry work. Leek said that the problems would be fixed and announced that heating and air systems inside the new jail would be complete in one more month.
