Buchanan honored by artisan's guild

Stecoah Artisans Guild is proud to announce Billy R. Buchanan as July's artisan of the month. Billy is a native of Robbinsville, NC but moved after his high school graduation in 1954. His first camera was a Kodak Brownie he received as a gift while in high school. Buchanan bought his first 35mm camera in Japan in 1956 while in the Marines, taking pictures of anything that interested him. In the early Seventies, Buchanan began to get serious about photography. He took a course in college that taught him how to develop and print black and white photos. Buchanan read, studied and put into practice what he leaned and is a mostly self-taught photographer. Buchanan returned home to Robbinsville in 1991, retired in 2001, and devotes all his time to photography.

Buchanan's primary interest is in nature and landscape photography, never tiring from shooting photos of God's marvelous work. He is constantly looking for photo opportunities everywhere he goes. Buchanan never tried to sell any of his work until 2006 when people kept encouraging him to do so. He uses the money from

his sales to help pay for his travel, printing and display expenses. Buchanan's work is displayed in various galleries and shops throughout western North Carolina and northern Georgia. To see some of Buchanan's amazing work, visit the Stecoah Valley Artisans Gallery located

inside Stecoah Valley Center

at 121 Schoolhouse Road, Robbinsville, NC. For more information or directions, please call (828)-479-3364.
