"Sound of Music" ready to premiere
Costumes, lights and set ready for action

The Von Trapp children ready to cross the mountains on their way to freedom. Katherine Byxbee, Alex Drost, Trevor Barber, Carly Payseur, Michelle Stewart, Julia Lindsey and Aspen Summer Fine of Hayesville.
The costumes are ready, the set is built and painted, and lines and songs have been learned. Now, Director Nancy Davis and Musical Director Paul Dyer are putting the finishing touches on "The Sound of Music" which opens Thursday at the Peacock Playhouse in Hayesville.

Songs such as "The Sound of Music," "My Favorite Things," and "Climb Every Mountain" will have the audience humming as they leave the theater.

This cast is perhaps the strongest overall cast for a musical at the Peacock Playhouse. The leads, Desiree Lulay and Brian Barrentine are well-trained, experienced, and believable as Maria and Captain Von Trapp. The nuns, led by Mother Abbess, Lois Ann Wentzel, have voices that are impressive. The seven Von Trapp children are extremely likeable and sing well enough to leave no doubt they could win the musical competition they enter as a cover for the family's escape. Other actors are very strong such as Janice Minette as Elsa Schraeder and Matt McGee as Max Detweiller to name just two. There are many more.

Some of the Nuns including Barbara Walker- Huff (second from left) and Mother Abbess, Lois Ann Wentzel (fifth from the left).
None of this would be possible without the costumers led by Tina Blackwell, Rhetta Gray, Lois Ann Wentzel and Judy Kirk. They had many other sewers who helped. In fact Eileen Adams and Joan Walter worked exclusively on the 35 costumes for the seven Von Trapp children.

Artists Barbara Harmon, Tim Gerber and Virginia Urani created the spectacular backdrops- and the word "spectacular" is not used lightly. They also had helpers with the painting.

The set builders, John Simonelli, Ken Snyder, Gary Thompson, Tom Payne and Gene Kirk constructed a set that truly complements the play.

Hayesville is well represented in the play with Katherine Byxbee, Barbara Walker-Huff, Fay Hobbs, Lois Ann Wentzel, Aspen Summer Fine and Dick Welton.
