Pressure Testing

A free pressure canner gauge testing will be from 1-3 p.m., Monday, July 25 at the Clay County Extension Center, Room #108 in the Community Services Building. If these times are not good for you, feel free to bring your lid prior to the testing date. Your lid will be tested at the specified time and you may pick it up at your convenience. Office hours are weekdays, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.,; closed 12-1 for lunch. Only dial gauges are tested, so if your canner has a weighted gauge, it does not need to be tested.

Elvis Night

The most well-attended concert from last Season returns this

Saturday, July 28 from 6-8 p.m. on the Hiawassee Square! The wonderful music of Gary York and Company will return to the Square, with promises of 50's and 60's tunes, as well as Gary's Classic Country sounds. The Wheel Band, scheduled to play this Saturday, had an unexpected medical emegency for one of its' members and cannot perform, but anticipates a performance for us on September 1, along with Lou Phillips and also the Towns County Idol Finals.

There should also be an appearance by "Elvis" (who can be found at The Heavenly Bake Shop during weekdays!!) The Red Cross will have its 7th Annual Fundraiser for the Towns County American Red Cross DAT (Disaster Action Team) . The Silent Auction viewing begins at 5:30 p.m. and the live auction will take place during intermission of the music. There will be over 100 items for auction, and a raffle with tickets costing $5.00 to win a cash prize of $500.00 Come early, to enjoy a hot dog and view the Silent auction items! Bring a lawn chair or blanket, your family and friends, and the family pet ( on a leash, please and with cleanup equipment!) Enchanted Music on the Square is produced by the OTM Committee, Inc., a non-profit group dedicated to bringing music and events to Towns County. Free concert from CCCRA

A The band "Gnarly Fingers" will be playing on Saturday, July 28 at a free concert in the pocket park hosted by the CCCRA. The concert begins at 7 p.m.

Cow Paddy Bingo

The Hayesville High School Quarterback Club will be holding the Annual Cow Paddy Bingo with the Youth Football Scrimmage against Murphy, Saturday, August 4 at the Hayesville High School Football Stadium. The activities begin at 2 p.m. with the Youth Football Scrimmage starting with the PeeWee's, followed by the Termites, Mites, and Midgets. Cow Paddy Bingo will begin at 6 p.m. with Whitey doing the honors this year. Admission to the game is $4.00 for adults and $2.00 for the kids. Drinks will be sold. The Cow Paddy Bingo tickets are a donation of $10.00 with the Grand Prize of $2,500.00. The eight squares touching the grand prize square will each win $100.00. You do not have to be present to win. The money raised helps for meals for varsity and JV players at away games, provides for equipment, scholarships, and more. Benefit Auction

Noon- 1:30 p.m. Buffet Lunch, $12/person, reservations required for lunch but not for auction. 1-2 p.m.: Silent Auction, free admission. 1-2 p.m.: Live Auction Preview, free admission. 2 - 5 p.m.: Live Auction with Tim Ryan & Bob Grove, free admission. The Union-Towns Home Builders Association is preparing for its Mountain Living Showcase

A Country Fare

A Country Fare will take place on the grounds of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd Saturday, September 8 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. A silent auction will be held Friday, September 7 from 4 to 8 p.m.

Business Expo & Job Fair

The Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with Tri-County Community College and NC Job Link, is making plans for the Sixth Business Expo & Job Fair on Sept. 14 and 15, 2007, on the campus of Tri-County Community College in Peachtree, Cherokee County, NC.

The expo and job fair will open Friday, Sept. 14, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for ninth-grade students in Cherokee and Clay counties schools and from 4 to 8 p.m. to the general public. Hours on Saturday are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Letters and applications have been mailed to chamber members and industry representatives. By combining the Expo/Job Fair, the organizing committee is bringing a bigger and better event to the community, looking for larger crowds and offering participating businesses a larger venue to showcase products, services and employment opportunities.

Quilt Show Planned

The Misty Mountain Quilt Guild of Georgia/North Carolina will have their bi-annual quilt show Oct. 12-13 at North Georgia Technical School in Blairsville, Ga. There will also be a silent auction of mini-quilts. The drawing for a kingsize quilts, "Stars Over Georgia," will be held on the last day of the show. Board of Elections meetings

Stroke Support

Al-Anon Meetings

Al-Anon meets at the Chatuge Regional Hospital in Hiawassee, Ga. on Sunday evenings at 8 p.m.; every Tuesday from noon until 1:30 p.m. at the Young Harris Regional Library conference room;

Free Diabetes classes offered

Every Wednesday between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., diabetes instruction is available free of charge at the Moss Memorial Library in Hayesville. The emphasis will be on understanding what diabetes is and how to do carbohydrate counting. Bring your logbooks, questions and meters with you. Family members are also welcome.

Free WRAP classes

Free weekly WRAP classes are being offered every

Tuesday from 4 p.m.-6 p.m. in Clay County at the Hayesville office of Murphy Counseling (the old Smoky Mountain Center). Wellness Recovery Action Planning, i.e. WRAP, is a 10-week course that teaches you an approach for managing mental health and/or substance abuse symptoms that are interfering with your life.

WRAP can provide you with HOPE that you can recover and reach for your goals! Certified facilitators are employees of Meridian Behavioral Health Services and have reached a place in their own recovery to offer hope, education and support to others. Classes are free and you can begin at any time. Come join us as we explore proven ways to regain our wellness.

Moose Lodge

We are now forming a Moose Lodge and invite you to join us. Our meetings are held at Homers Corner Cafe located at Hwy 19/129 in Murphy, NC inside Fosters Flea Market. Senior Dances

Granny's Attic has moved to Westgate Plaza on U.S. Hwy. 64. They offer "gently used" items for sale in support of Hospice through Good Shepherd Home Health and Hospice. Donations welcome. Hours are Wednesday-Saturday, 9 a.m.- 4 p.m.

Library Book Store

Save $$$ on all your favorite books (and records too!) and help support Moss Memorial Library. Located across from the library in Hayesville Monday 12:30 - 4 p.m., Tues - Sat 10 - 4 p.m.

Hidden Treasures

The Friends of the Moss Memorial Library's Thrift Store is now open in it's new location, across from the library and next door to the used bookstore. Hidden Treasures is open every Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is also accepting donations of gently used household items during business hours.
