Georgia Mountain Fair entertaining for all ages
JOAN CROTHERS Sentinel Editor

HIAWASSEE - "The Fair is having another good year," reported Hilda Thomason, Director of the Georgia Mountain Fair. "The front gate reported have 4,545 paid attendees on opening day, July 18, up from 2006 opening day at 4,187. That doesn't count all the children under 12 that don't pay, plus all our workers, volunteers, and crafters.

"The first Saturday is always a really big day at the Fair, with the parade and the clogging groups, as well as the special music. This year there were 8,291 paid admissions. Of course, last year Josh Turner performing was a big draw bringing 9,866 that Saturday."

Thomason also said the weather had been good, not so hot and the much needed rain had not come during peak times. She has had two interviews so far with Atlanta TV stations. Wes Sarginson, Channel 11, came up last week to do a story on the Fair. His writeup can be seen at www.11alive.com and then click on Wes Side Story. Channel 5 came up Monday to do a story on the trout booth and how they smoke those delicious local trout.

The Photography Exhibit started Monday in the Flower Show building. There are some outstanding photos, so include that stop as you tour the Fair. The building is located across from the Main Exhibit Hall, which is always interesting.
