Response to a letter from an Asheville doctor I recently received a letter for a Doctor in Asheville, who I will call Dr.M... I've never met him. He replied personally to my home address on a public letter to the editor I wrote titled "We're at War with the Jihadists". I give him the benefit of doubt that he's sincerely concerned about the state of America and the world. If that's his motivation, I appreciate his concern. However, he's grossly misinformed, ignorant or in denial on many issues. His two page single spaced rant letter doesn't allow me to address each issue he raised in the available space. I'll try to condense his comments and provide some answers for him and others who may share his views. Dr. M. made nine disrespectful comments against the President and several more against the Vice President. It saddened me that a person of supposedly reasonable intellect would stoop to the verbal thuggery of far Left bomb throwers. The Doctor blamed the President for everything negative in the universe and called for his impeachment. He, like most of us, wants to bring the troops home from Iraq. The difference is he doesn't understand the Iraqis need a chance to fend and govern for themselves in as stabile an environment as possible. Without that chance the outcome is guaranteed wholesale slaughter of innocents, instability, secure training bases for Al-Qaeda and other extremist Muslim groups and increased attacks against and in America. It also invites the Islamic Republic of Iran to take over a weak neighbor. Dr.M. claimed that Al-Qaeda was not in Iraq until the U.S. kicked Saddam out. He must've missed the reports of Saddam's Intelligence Services coordinating and meeting with Al-Qaeda representatives or the fact that at three "secret" insurgent/terrorist training camps existed in Samarra, Ramadi and Salman Pak in pre-war Iraq. These camps trained over 8000 in the years from 1999 to 2002. Al-Qaeda was definitely connected to those activities. Many trainees returned to Iraq to join the "Jihad" against the coalition forces. The Doctor also missed the point that in 1996 Ben- Laden declared war on America, and again with a press conference in 1998. The salient point is the Doctor, like the Clinton-Berger bunch, wasn't paying attention. That administration incorrectly regarded it as a law enforcement problem. When Iran's fanatical nuclear developing Islamist leader Ahmadinejad says "Israel must be wiped off of the face of the earth…" is anyone, other than the Israelis, listening? Is there any reason to doubt the veracity of his threat? Dr.M. should understand that once war is declared politics have failed. The remaining options are to fight to win or lose. It appears a significantnumber of Congressional Democrats embrace losing. When a war starts the facts and circumstances surrounding the reasons for going to war are generally irrelevant. America and the West are locked in a battle for survival against a hate fueled radical Islam. Meanwhile, Ben-Laden recruits for Radical Islam's world-wide insurgency from a pool of 1.3 billion. I close by answering a question Dr. M. posed. He asked, "Since I approved of the President's decision to provide more troops to the surge in Iraq, would I be willing to join the surge?" My answer is, YES, I proudly served our country over twenty-two years in the U.S. Army, two of those years in combat in SE Asia fighting with the elite Green Berets with time spent at Walter Reed. Age and disabilities aside, I'd be honored to lace up my combat boots one more time to join our fineyoung warriors in Iraq or anywhere else in the world.
