Fred J. Baker
Fred J. Baker, age 94, of Hayesville, NC died Thursday, August 23, 2007 at the Clay County Care Center in Hayesville, NC after a long illness.

He was a native of Fulton County, Georgia and the son of the late John E. and Enola Griswell Baker. Mr. Baker was a pressman for Stein Printing Company in Atlanta, GA; then during World War II, he was commissioned to run a Secret Service Press for the U. S. Government. Following this, he went back to work for Stein Printing Company. After two years, he left the government and went in business for himself. He had a large complex which included a grocery store, filling station and a large coal company. Some four years later, he went back to work at Stein Printing Co. from which he retired in 1974 to move to Hayesville, NC.

Mr. Baker was Church Clerk and Secretary for four years and a Deacon for fifteen years of Grove Park Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia. When he retired to Hayesville, he was Sunday School Secretary for twelve years at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church.

Mr. Baker is survived by his beloved ninety-one year old wife,

Mary W. Baker to whom he was married for seventy-two years; a son, J. Terry Baker of Hayesville, NC; a daughter, Susan B. Hendrix of Rose Hill, NC; a grandson, Taylor Baker of Greensboro, NC; and two granddaughters, Katie Hendrix of Raleigh, NC and Ginny Hendrix of Chapel Hill, NC.

A Memorial service will be held at 11:30 A.M., Monday, August 27, 2007, at the Hayesville First United Methodist Church in Hayesville, NC. The Rev. Kirk Hatherly will officiate.

Hayesville, NC 28904, or The Salvation Army, P. O. Box 358, Waynesville, NC 28786 or to The Atlanta Union Mission, P. O. Box 1807, Atlanta, Georgia 30301.
