Swift water rescue classes held in Nantahala

Personnel involved were from Towns County, Clay County and Cherokee County.

Towns County personnel- Michael Lovingood, Jason Jones, Tracy James, Gene Helton, Jeremy Parker, Michael Denton, James Rosser, Edward Berrong. Main Instructor- From Clay County- David Crisp.

All weekend training- Friday August 24th to Sunday August 26th. Training went from 10am to 5pm. First in the water training was Saturday 25th, in a level one rapid to practice with what is called the strainer (a floating pipe that is tethered to trees by ropes to mimic obstacles in the water), victim rescues and basic water rescue. Sunday the group went to a level two rapid and basically did the same thing as the day before but in much stronger water.

The training took place in the Nantahala River, past Andrews.
