Helen Eller Woody
She was a native and lifelong resident of Clay County, NC and was the daughter of the late Barnett Sylvestor and Ollie Nicholson Eller. She was a member of the Mountain of Faith Baptist Church in Hayesville, NC and taught Sunday School for many years. In 1930 she was among Elf High Schools first graduating class. She was a homemaker and a teachers -aide at Shooting Creek Elementary School. She loved quilting, cooking, canning and gardening. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Roy Charlie Woody; two sons, James Hoyt Woody and Johnny B. Woody; one brother, Gilbert Eller and two sisters, Elda McClure and Hester Nelms. She is survived by one son, Walter Lee Woody and his wife Mildred of Hayesville, NC; two daughters and their husbands, June W. and Lloyd M. Ledford of Hayesville, NC and Joy W. and Harrison Dockery of Marble, NC; three sisters, Verda Adams, Cordia Wood and Hazel Rhinehardt all of Hiawassee, GA; 15 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at the Townson Rose, Frank Rose, Sr. Memorial Chapel in Hayesville, NC. The Rev. Aud Brown and Rev. Todd Chester will officiate. Music will be provided by Tressa and Haley Woody and the Downings Creek Baptist Church Choir. Interment will be in the Old Shooting Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Preston Woody, Mark Woody, Trent Woody, Walt Woody, David Woody and Bryan Dockery. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Woody and Will Tison. The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.,Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at the Townson Rose, Frank Rose Sr. Memorial Chapel in Hayesville, NC. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made In Memory of Helen Eller Woody to the Old Shooting Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Robert Scroggs, 84 Robert Scroggs Drive, Hayesville, NC 28904.
