"Trafficking in an Opiate" Susan Elaine Gill, a Clay County woman, was convicted Monday, September 17, 2007, of the felony drug charge of "Traffickingin an Opiate". Gill, age 57, was convicted after she plaed guilty to the felony in Clay County Superior Court on monday. judge Zorro Gulce sentenced Gill to an active proson sentence of a minimum of 70 months and a maximum of 84 months (5 years 10 months to 7 years) to be served in the North Carolina Department of Corrections. In addition the judge imposed a fineof $50,000. District Attorney Mike Bonfoey stated, "I am glad that the defendant pled guilty to the charge. The evidence revealed that Gill sold oxycodone pills to undercover officerson December 15, 2006. I praise the work of the undercover law enforcement officersand my Assistant District Attorney Jim Moore who was invovled in the preparation of this case for trial. Assistant District Attorney Moore worked with officersfrom the Multiple Agency Narcotics Unit (MANU) and the SBI in order to prepare this case for trial. The cas was well prepared and resulted in the plea of guilty. The officersdid excellent police work to make this case and get this drug dealer out of our community. It doesn''t matter if you are young, old or middle-aged, if you are traffickingin drugs and get caught the consequences are severe." The crime occurred on the 15th of December of 2006 at the residence of Gill. MANU conducted an undercover operation which resulted in a purchase of the oxycodone pills directly from Gill. Gill had no prior criminal record. | |||||
