ROBBINSVILLE, NC. - At a recent Graham County Board of Education meeting, Lester Greene was named to succeed David Haney, past Pacesetters Board Chairman, as the Graham County Representative to Western Carolina Pacesetters Board of Directors.

Rick Davis, Superintendent of Graham County Schools, stated, "Lester has some big shoes to fill following David but I'm confident he'll do a great job. His financial skills will help Pacesetters develop stronger programs and strengthen the organization for the long haul. In the past most members of Pacesetters board have been administrators, principals, or guidance counselors. I know because I have served on Pacesetters board and I am aware of the services they provide our students today. Lester brings a different perspective to the table. It's a good fit."

Greene is a native of Graham County, the son of Carl and JoAnn Greene who still reside in the Tulula area of the county. A 1983 graduate of Robbinsville High, Greene lettered in four sports: football, basketball, track, and baseball. Following high school,

Greene attended Western Carolina University graduating with a degree in computer science in 1988. For sixteen years Greene worked for Industrial Opportunities. Better know as IOI, the nationally recognized non profit corporation employs and aids handicapped youths and adults from the entire area. In 1992 Greene went back to college and in 1994 he received his second undergraduate degree from Western Carolina University. This time his major was accounting.

In 2005 Greene went to work for the Graham County Board of Education as the finance officer. In a recent interview, Greene commented, "I've been extremely blessed. Those 16 year with IOI helped me appreciate all that I have and it also helped me see what I can do. I am pleased to be where I am today. The people I work with are great and feel like the work I do helps our schools help our students. Over the two years I've been here with the schools, I've heard a lot of good things about Pacesetters. I look forward to this new responsibility. I don't know if Bailea, my 12 year old daughter, has had a chance to visit Pacesetters Adventure Center. I'll have to check with her on that. If not, we'll have to schedule an outing."

Pacesetters is a federal and state not for profit that provides adventure based learning experiences and operates Pacesetters Adventure Center in Marble for youth in the five counties of western North Carolina: Graham, Cherokee, Clay, Macon, and Swain.
