Licklog players welcome new faces
LINDA M. SMITH Contributing Writer

"Witness For The Prosecution", Agatha Christie's great mystery, will be playing at the Peacock Playhouse in Hayesville, NC, by some who have acted in many plays there and some who are brand new to the Licklog Players, including the director, Dan Norton. Under his expertise, the actors are all doing great at their rehearsals and the mystery play promises to be a success.

Susan Wyman who plays Romaine, the wife of the murder suspect, changes her naturally delicate voice to that of one with authority with a German accent. Wyman played in Cabaret, two British comedies and always comedic and free spirited roles, like hersel, she says. "This is a challenge to me to make a departure from my usual comedies and play a serious character. The development of my character is in layers and makes sense at the end."

Families are incolced with the Licklog players. Codie Riffle who attends early college at Trri-County College is the stage manager. He is 15 years old, but becoming well rounded in the production of plays, having acted in some: Sound of Music, Big and On Golden Pond and worked the sound on another. His mother Dulcie Riffle says"Maybe someday he''ll be a great director." Codie's dad, Jeff Riffle,is a retired police lieutenant from south Florida and plays the inspector. He acted in one other play A Christmas Carol. He likes to share an interest with Codie.

Frank Bradley, the producer of "Witness" asked Bob Lekites to join the Licklog Players. "We need characters and you are the character." Lekites plays the part of Carter the clerk. Bob and his wife Susan are new to the area. They were visiting relatives, planning to stay for two days. They stayed 2 weeks, bought property, hired a builder, retuned to Delaware to marry and moved into their new house in Clay County two years ago. Lekites played roles in college and has returned to acting now to keep busy and have fun. His wife Susan volunteers for the Licklog Players' many activities.

Michael Lindsey's role is Leonard Vole, the suspect. He has been in many plays as has Chuck Shissler who plays Mr. Mayhew. David Spicey plays the defense attorney, Sir William Roberts.

Renzie Davidson, who lives in Blairsville, called to buy tickets for the last play Sound of Music and was told the seats were sold out. "I wasn't going to let that happen again so I volunteered to act and i'm also the set man." "Witness" is his first play. He plays the judge.

Two other roles are played by two ladies new to the Licklog Players. Elizabeth Dosch Somervell is a math teacher in Hayesville and plays Janet MacKenzie, the housekeeper. Carol Westervet plays Greta the secretary.

Costumes are by Nancy Byxbee.
