Last weekend to see Witness For The Prosecution

Agatha Christie's stylish murder drama, WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION, is as riveting today as it was originally. On opening night the audience at the Peacock Playhouse in Hayesville stayed interested throughout the play waiting for the next turn of events. It will run September 21-23.

Regular playgoers will recognize favorites such as David Spivey as Sir Wilfred Robarts, for the defense, Michael Lindsey as Leonard Vole, the accused murderer, and Susan Wyman as his wife, Romaine. Micah Robinson takes on the biggest role for him at the Peacock, Prosecutioner Myers and was appreciated by the audience. Chuck Shissler and Frank Bradley round out the familiar faces.

It is always exciting to see actors who are brand new to the stage or seen too infrequently at the theater. As a regional community theater, this play with its large cast, has brought some excellent people to the stage and hopefully they will return for many more plays. Not entirely new to the stage, Jeff Riffle does a fine job as Inspector Robert Hearne as does Jason Swint as Clegg Thomas. Brand new to the Peacock is Bob LeKites as Carterwho has done acting in Delaware with the Possum Point Players and the Del Tech Players in Georgetown. Jennifer Peterson plays "the girl." Jennifer comes all the way from Roswell and has performed in musical theater in Atlanta. She also will be trying out for American Idol. Carol Westervett is new to the area, but has been an English and drama teacher in high school. The audience appreciated her comedic performance as Greta. Praise also goes to Elizabeth Somervell who plays Janet MacKenzie. She did an excellent job, and it is amazing to believe that she has not been on the stage since high school. Hopefully, she'll return to the stage shortly. Her son, Jesse Somervell, plays the Warden and the Uniformed Officer. He has had several appearances at the Peacock. Renzie Davidson as the Judge and C.G. Williamson as the police detective are making their first appearance on a stage. Director, Dan Norton is directing his first play for the Playhouse.

As always it was an enjoyable evening at the beautiful Peacock Playhouse. How lucky this area is to have such a fine facility.
