Jackets control Towns County with a 26 to 6 win!
The Hayesville Yellow Jackets took on a much improved Towns County team last Friday and had a fight on their hands. The game was scoreless until midway in the 2nd Quarter when Towns County's John Swilley scored following a fumble recovery. Three minutes later, Hayesville struck back when Tim Shaffer picked up a TD with a 5-yard run tying the score 6 to 6. Then three minutes later than that, Robert Rogers intercepted the ball and ran it back 58 yards for another Hayesville score putting the Jackets up 12 to 6 at half-time. In the second half, the Yellow Jacket defense cracked down on the Indians play holding them scoreless for the half, while the Hayesville offense picked up two more touchdowns. A three yard run by Shaffer in the 3rd Quarter and a 86 yard run by Jonathan Shively midway in the 4th Quarter. Shawn Tant kicked both extra points giving the Yellow Jackets a 26 to 6 victory. The Jacket defense hung tough with some big tackles by Brett Moody, Tim Coker, Tino Scolaro and "the terminator" D.J. Anderson, who had a great night both defensively and offensively, laying down some good blocks. On offense, Shivley rushed for 114 yards on six attempts and completed 6 of 13 passes for 114 yards. He also punted the ball twice for an average of 39.5 yards. Ailing Jacket players are healing and getting back on the field. Bradley Nuckolls got in some playing time. Jordan Jones is healing and could be playing this coming Friday in the Jackets' home game against Cherokee. Coach Neil Setzer called it a "huge game" against the defending conference champions, the Cherokee Braves." "They are fast, experienced and athletic," Coach Setzer said about them. "Their linemen are big." Cherokee will be the Jackets first conference game of the season, followed by Rosman and Swain on successive Fridays.
