Upcoming Events THIS WEEK Nature & Acryllcs Learn to paint animals, landscapes and still-life. Create a "Welcome" sign as your first project and then explore! "If it doesn't move, paint it!" The instructor for the class will be Susanne Ksinski. A minimum of six students is required. Class will be held on Monday evenings from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Senior Center, across from the library in Murphy. Want to be a better communicator during a crisis? Free Seminar sponsored by the Clay County Health Department taught by DHHS Public Affairs Director Debbie Crane. The seminar covers crisis/emergency communications, dealing with the media in all situations, selling your story, dealing with tough community situations, creating news releases, talking points and media kits. You will receive handy, takeaway materials for your use as a communicator. The seminar will be held on Friday October 5 at 9 a.m. until 12 noon at Truett Memorial Baptist Church Fellowship Hall in Hayesville. Crafts, dancing and music in addition to food and games make it a fun experience. Vintage Car Show and Boy Scout Fundraiser On Saturday, October 6, 2007, Jacky Jones Chrysler will host their superb classic car shows. There will be scores of beautifully restored cars to delight enthusiasts of all ages.In addition to the car show, the Boy Scouts of Troop 407, Hayesville, will be cooking hot dogs and hamburgers to raise funds for our troop. The money raised will be used to support our troop activities and equipment needs. We hav a very active troop and have produced 34 Eagle Scouts since 1990.Please come and enjoy the vintage car show and help support Hayesville's Boy Scout Troop. The car show will be Saturday evening from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The Boy Scouts will be cooking from 11:00 a.m. through 8 p.m. A special thanks to Ed Ashe and Jacky Jones Chrysler for helping us continue serving Hayesville's Boy Scouts. Class Reunion The Hayesville High School Multi Class Reunion will be held in the Fellowship Hall of the Truett Memorial Baptist Church, 22 Hiawassee Street, Hayesville, NC. Quilt Show Planned The Misty Mountain Quilt Guild of Georgia/North Carolina will have their bi-annual quilt show Oct. 12-13 at North Georgia Technical School in Blairsville, Ga. There will also be a silent auction of mini-quilts. The drawing for a king-size quilts, "Stars Over Georgia," will be held on the last day of the show. You do not have to be present to win. The Mountain Faith blue-grass gospel group from the Smoky Mountains of Sylva NC will perform. The group consists of Sam McMahan on the bass, Summer McMahan on the mandolin and fiddle, Brayden McMahan on the banjo, John Morgan on the guitar, and Jed Mobley on the mandolin. This group has been traveling for over 3 years and has sung in 9 states in the south and Midwest. They have played and sung in over 100 churches. One Dozen Who Care One Dozen Who Care, Inc Announces a 5-week Writing Workshop for October & November The popularity of the Creative Writing series has prompted a brand new and extended format. This new format includes seven courses entitled as follows: Basic Grammar Character Development & Dialogue Plot and Theme Point of View and Narration Description The Short Story Exposure, Blogging & Self Publishing The first course in the series, Basic Grammar, is a five-week class scheduled to begin October 17th from 6pm to 8pm. If you feel that your grammar and punctuation are preventing you from beginning or finishing your story, you should register to attend this class. In this comfortable and non-intimidating environment, students will be reminded of the rules of grammar that many of us routinely break in both written and verbal form. MOAA October Picnic The Blue Ridge Mountains Chapter of the MOAA will meet at 3 p.m. and eat about 3:30 p.m. at the Rhododendron Pavilion at the Georgia Fair Grounds on October 22. You and your dogs are invied to our Bark in the Park on the Square in Hayesville on SAturday, October 20 from 11AM - 2PM. We will have contests for largest, smallest dogs, best tricks, most look like owner, best costumes, oldest and youngest dogs, most verbal, prettiest, most handsome and Best in Show. Dog entry fee is $5.00 and spectators are free and encouraged to bring a lawn chair. Hots dogs, cokes and cookies will be for sale and there will be a lot of nice raffle items. Sponsored by the Castway Critters Pet Rescue and there will be puppies, dogs and kittens there from the shelter all awaiting adoption so come on out and join the fun.
