Change a light, change the world
PAM STATON Guest Writer

If each home in North Carolina replaced just one standard light bulb with an energyefficient Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL), we would:

*Conserve enough energy to light more than 86, 000 homes for a year. *Save more than $15 mil lion in annual ener gy costs. *Cut greenhouse gases equivalent to emis sions from 19,000 cares a year. Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs: *Use at least two-thirds less energy than stan dard incandescent bulbs *Last up to 10 times longer *Save $30 or more in ener gy cost over each bulb's lifetime and *Generate 70 percent less heat, cutting cosst associated with home cool ing

North Carolina Cooperative Extension - Clay County Center along with Blue Ridge Mountain Electric Membership Corp, Tennessee Valley Authority, the State Energy Office of the N.C, Department of Administration, and the division of Air Quality are conducting a Change A Light, Change The World Campaign. We will be distributing a compact fluorescent light bulb, with educational information to every family that pledges to do their part to save energy and help reduce risks of global climate change by replacing at least one light in their home with a compact fluorescent bulb.

We have 750 CFLbulbs we hope to distribute by the end of October. So if you have a group which is meeting and you would like us to come and promote this campaign please give us a call. All participants have to do is, complete a pledge card (takes 1-2 minutes) and they receive a free bulb and educational information.

If you want to receive a FRE Compact Fluorescent Bulb, stop by the North Carolina Cooperative Extension - Clay County Center, Clay County Community Services Building, Room #108 (lower level), Monday - Friday, 8 am - 12 pm, 1 - 5 pm.

For more information call Pam Staton, Extension Agent, 389-6305.
