Letter to the Editor:

I write to laud the Sentinel for its frank, informed, caring editorials concerning, recently, the challenge of the monster Interstate.

Your sensitive exposure of another prevalent ogre, Domestic Violence, quite commendable. Your current reporters sound inspired and accurate.

I findyou consistently lean toward unification in instances of social conflict, and have become a steady voice of resolution-in- transition in our mountain region. Yet, thankfully, you remain stubborn in defending our unique small town customs, extolling our special rural values.

You take a stand and maintain it!

It seems to me, having lived in and about Clay County for over 30 years, that you confront controversial issues when other publications tend to ignore them. This yield, to my perusal, at lest two of the just fruits of a vital country weekly: intelligent journalism joined to enlightened tolerance.

May you continue to bear such edible harvest!

"Wildfire is a terrorist weapon"

Dear Editor,

I'm glad the DC 10 Supertanker aircraft is finally being used to fight the wildfiresin California but the criminal issue is and has been, for over 12 years, that the U.S. Forest Service REFUSES to use it on federal land which forces Cal - Fire firefightingagency to wait for the fireto burn onto State property so they can use it. Of course by that time the firehas developed into a massive PLANNED uncontrolled holocaust destroying many homes and lives when it could have been stopped in hours if the U.S. Forest Service would only USE the Supertankers in the BEGINNING of the firewhich they have refused to do for over 12 years! It's outrageous to behold the current unnecessary massive wildfire holocausts in California being presided over by the U.S. Forest Service that still refuses to use the Supertanker aircraft that could have STOPPED these fires at the fires' beginning. I think it's obscenely evil that the U.S. Forest Service is still deliberately REFUSING to use DC- 10 and 747 type Supertankers to stop wildfires( for over 12 years), fires that have reportedly destroyed over 30,000 homes and scores of human lives over this time. This apparent SCORCHED EARTH policy of the U.S. Forest Service for over a decade, see: JBS. org (search: wildfire)must be stopped and the officials prosecuted!. We have to FORCE the U.S. Forest Service to PROTECT our lives, homes, and forests- not destroy them. Six DC-10 and /or Boeing- 747 Supertankers will end all uncontrolled wildfiresin our country but we must DEMAND they be used by the U.S. Forest Service and more built to restore protection of our families and country. We must call every public officialwe can find!

Best regards,

- Larry Hamblin, Firefighter(retired).

Letter to the Editor:

On behalf of the students and faculty of Hayesville High School, we would like to thank everyone who contributed to the Bulldog-Yellow Jacket Fund-raising challenge.

Hayesville High School raised over $3600.00 to donate to Industrial Opportunities, Inc. (IOI).

This challenge was a tremendous school and community endeavor. Our purpose was to promote positive school spirit by focusing on a good cause, and we were successful well beyond our expectations.

Thank you to all of the students, members of the community and businesses who made contributions.

Go Hayesville! Go Yellow Jackets!

Sincerely,

Gail Criss, Principal

Alex Morgan, Student Council President
