Junior Fire Fighters control traffic at a Country Fare

Pat Jordan, '07 Country Fare Co-Chairman, presents a $500 check to Tyler Parker of Clay County Junior Fire Dept. L to R - Cory Scroggs, Chelsea McCabe, Trevor Parker, Ryan Hadas and Kery Morgan. Not pictured is the group's adult leader, Angie Parker.
Early on the morning of September 8th, traffic on both sides of HWY #64 in Hayesville was lined up for miles to get into the parking lot of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Hayesville. It was the day of Good Shepherd's annual Country Fare and it seemed that everyone north of Atlanta and west of Asheville had come to the festivities.

But, despite long bumper-to-bumper lines, traffic moved quickly, thanks to members of the Clay County Junior Fire Department, an Explorer group trained by the Fire and Rescue Squad.

"They are an outstanding group of young people," said Pat Jordan, Co-Chairman of A Country Fare. "They did a superb job. They handled the flowof traffic coming and going all day long and we greatly appreciated their help."

A Country Fare is Good Shepherd's major fund-raiser, held in September each year, with all proceeds distributed to charities in the four-county area.

This year $17,000 were distributed among the Clay County Food Pantry, Clay County Tobacco Awareness Group, Clay County Ministerial Assn., Clay County Hearts For Kids, Clay County Gifts of Kindness, Clay County Drug Coalition (100 Strong), Clay County Communities In Schools/ Hands of Hope, Towns County Habitat For Humanity, Hurlburt Johnson, Friendship House/ Homeless / Shelter, Clay County Meals For Friends, Towns County Meals On Wheels, Mountain Home Nursing, Clay County REACH, Towns/ Union County SAFE, Towns County Family Connection, Women's Enrichment Center, Clay/Cherokee House and the Truett Foster Home.
