Remembering our Veterans

Postal clerk Rex Ledford raises the flag at the Hayesville Post Office at the start of the work day. It has been the custom at the Hayesville PO to raise the flag each work day and lower it when the post office closes. Ledford, a 12 postal worker is frequently the one handling this ceremony. He is also a U.S. Navy Viet Nam era veteran, having served from 1975 until 1977.
In recognition of Veterans Day, members of Hayesville's Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 6812 will be selling Poppies on the Square, at the Ingles parking lot, and at the Country Cottage Restaurant this Saturday morning. Proceeds are used for veteran services.

Also, on Sunday, November 11, Clay County veterans will join with members of Murphy's Post 10222 for a ceremony at 11 a.m. on the Square in downtown Murphy. Everyone is invited to observe the ceremony in honor of Veterans Day.
