      Jesse Willard Workman, also known as "Red", was born July 24, 1928 in Valley Head, Ala. He attended grammar and junior high schools in Georgia. He graduated high school in 1945 and worked at various jobs until he joined the navy in 1946. His mother signed for him to join, as he was underage.
