From the porch
I'm not talking about the candy that comes in round pieces. I'm not talking about doctors. I'm not even talking about fire fighters. Over 500 people from nearly 50 different churches got together on November 1 for the largest fund raiser of the year for the Appalachian Area Crisis Pregnancy Center's Woman's Enrichment Center. They work to save lives before a person peeps from his mother's womb. In other words, they choose life over abortion. This is one of the most galvanizing topics of our generation. We have pro-abortion people and pro-life people. Most of the so-called Christian right are against abortion. Many socalled liberals favor abortion, at least in some circumstances. The keynote speaker at the fund raiser called abortion in the United States the "American Holocaust". While five million jews were slaughtered by the Nazis in WWII, 46 million babies have been killed through abortion. I don't know why people think of abortion as okay. Some say they don't believe in abortion unless the woman was raped, unless doctors think the child will be born with a handicap or unless the birth process will endanger the woman's life. However, most abortions are done simply because having a baby at that time is inconvenient. A girl may think she is too young. The child was unplanned. There are many excuses. One of the good traits about liberals is that they supposedly care about their fellow humans. They care about the poor and minorities. Why then, would they so whole heartedly support the deliberate killing of their fellow humans? Maybe they think that as long as the baby is in its mother, it isn't human. But can they prove that a baby has no perception of life in the womb and its surroundings. Studies tend to prove that more developed womb babies respond to stimuli from outside the womb. Killing a baby before he/ she is born deprives him/her of the chance to experience this wonderful life around us. As Christians, we can say the baby is in heaven and is in a better place than this earth. That may be true. But I believe God intends for every conceived being to have a chance at experiencing life as a human being. Many mothers are convinced to let their babies live just because they hear their heartbeats through an ultra sound.
So I give a thumbs up to those working at the Woman's Enrichment Centers in Andrews, Blairsville and Dalton, GA. They are life savers just as surely as are those public servants such as firemen and policemen who are working to protect our lives.
