Valley River Humane says a big thanks to many helpers

The Valley River Humane Society has started a new program called "The Big Fix." We held our first annual fundraiser October 20 with all proceeds going to provide free or low cost spay and neuter services for Clay, Cherokee, Graham and Swain County residents' pets.

We would like to thank everyone who helped by being a sponsor, donating funds, providing food, helping with advertizing, selling or buying tickets or volunteering. Our success is due to everyone who helped and came out to support this community endeavor.

Our media: Signs Fast, Glenda and Barry Beall, the Clay County Progress, Cherokee Scout, Sentinel Newspapers, Andrews Journal, WKRK and WCNG radio stations, Smokey Mountain Shoppers Guide, Clay and Cherokee Chambers of Commerce.

The restaurants, stores, organizations or individuals who donated food: Long John Silvers, A&W, Hayesviklle Civitans, Mary's Southern Grill, Yellow Jacket Cafe, Toast of the Town Cafe, Brothers Restaurant, Cottage Salad Station and Deli, Sav-A-Lot, United Grocery, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Schick, Dr. and Mrs. William Appleton, Mr. and Mrs. J. Meek, Mr. and Mrs. Cleaners.

These were the other sponsors for our event: Mr. and Mrs. Bob Grove, Grove Enterprises, Grove Auctions, Sundowner RV Resort Village, St. Pierre Wood Pottery, Wood Creations, Goldhagen Studios, Dixie Leather, That's Video, Harting Appliances, Doc's Hand Carved Critters, All Home Improvement, Mountain Candle Works, Cold Nose College, Mr. and Mrs. Cleaners, Mr. and Mrs. R. Toner, Marie Lampkin, Pat and Jeannette Kern, K-9 Klippers and Lake Chatuge Animal Hospital.

Many others gave generous donations for the "Big Fix," and we appreciate every dollar. Our basket of treats donated by VRHS Board of Directors, So Many Used Books & More, Mountain Candleworks, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Ludwig, and the "Big Fix" Committee. We also wish to thank First United Methodist Church of Murphy for allowing us to hold our event there. Special thanks to our director, Jeff Lockett, for painting our thermometer and hauling it around; Londi Moore for donating 100 candles and spay & neuter magnets; Jan Mierke for the beautiful aprons. We all had a great day. Thank you one and all. God's Blessings.

With much appreciation from Debbie Graham and Lynne Wilson, Valley River Humane Society.
