Cooking with Barbara
" A Little Christmas Cheer" " Fruit and Nut Roll"
By Barbara Walker

This recipe came from a cook book in the 1950's put out by "The Gold Wing" club of Sugar Hill, Georgia. One of our teachers who had never married was the President. I guess Virginia was in her late forties, such a beautiful lady and such good teacher.

She sold them in our school. This is easy to make. This is easy to make and delicious for the holidays. It didn't call for sugar but I added 1/2 cup powdered sugar to the mixture and rolled it in the sugar and crumbs.
Fruit and Nut Roll
• 1 Box Graham Crackers
• 1 Box white or dark Raisins
• 1 Can of Coconut
• 2 cups Nuts, finely ground
• 1 package 8 ounce or 10 ounce
Marshmallows, the small ones
melt easily.
• 1 bottle of Maraschino cherries

• 1 cup of sweet milk, half &
half or Evaporated milk.

Crumble graham crackers with a rolling pin ( old fashioned way) or use a food chopper, till they are finely chopped.

Pour one cup of crumbs aside.

Heat the milk and marshmallows over a slow heat. Add to all other ingredients. Sprinkle powdered sugar and other crumbs on waxed paper.

Mix ingredients with as Paula Deen says" Your best tools, you hands" I butter my hands.

Shape into 2 rolls. Place on wax paper, on at a time and roll in crumbs and sugar. Wrap tightly and refrigerate.

This will keep several weeks, slice as needed.
