First Sergeant James Williams

First Sergeant James L. Williams (Ret.), age 76 of Marble, NC died Thursday November 22, 2007 at the Murphy Medical Center E.R.

A native and lifelong resident of Marble, NC, he was the son of the late Lee R. and Elizabeth Deaver Williams. He was a US Army veteran and retired from the North Carolina National Guard 210th MP Company, where he was affectionately known as "Top". He received the Meritorious Service Medal in 1988 from the State of North Carolina. Mr. Williams was also a retired maintenance worker from Coats American. He enjoyed fishing, target practicing, watching NASCAR and football on television. He loved spending time with his family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Hodge Williams in 1996, two brothers Van and Bobby Williams, one sister Ruby Williams.

He is survived by his life partner Lois Coker White of Marble, NC and her daughter Holly Lundquist and husband Andy of Hayesville, NC; two step-daughters, Johnnie Bell Harwood of Sapulpa, Oklahoma and Nadine Berry of Okmulgee, Oklahoma; one brother, Grover Williams of Marble, NC; two sisters, Annabelle Miller Lee of Warne, NC and Betty Kuykendall and husband Carroll of Marble, NC; one sister-in-law, Cleo Hicks Williams of Marble, NC; six nieces, five nephews, five great nephews, four great nieces, four greatgreat nephews and three greatgreat nieces.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, November 25, 2007 at the Townson Rose Funeral Home in Murphy, NC with Rev. Jimmy Rogers and Rev. Fred Lunsford officiating. Interment will be held in the Maltby Baptist Church Cemetery in Marble, NC. Pallbearers and military graveside rites will conducted by the North Carolina National Guard 210th MP Company.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., Saturday November 24, 2007 at the Townson Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy, NC.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made In Memory of James. L. Williams to the Maltby Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 950 Maltby Road, Marble, NC 28905.
