Murphy Medical Center book Fair

The Murphy Medical Center Foundation is hosting a book fair scheduled this Thursday, December 6 (11:00AM- 6:00PM) and Friday, December 7 (7:00 AM - 2:00 PM) in the large conference room at the hospital. The book fair features quality books and unique gifts provided by the Books Are Fun organization at wonderful savings. Every event is different but there is always a wide variety of all sorts of books, note cards and stationery items, children's activity items, music cd's and much more. Their cookbook and children's book section is wonderful! Cash, Credit Cards, Checks (even post-dated) are accepted.

Murphy Libray film

The Murphy Library will show a film for the after-school crowd at 3:15 p.m. Thursday, December 6 and again at 6. Anne Bancroft and Patty Duke took Broadway by storm in 1960 when they captured the souls of Annie Sullivan and Helen Keller, persuading the world that anything is possible. Then Hollywood took notice and they did the same in the movie. Both won Oscars for their brilliant acting. Bring a child and tell them that this movie is not just about a deaf-blind girl, it's about a teacher too. Call 837-2417 for details. No charge.

Coffee with the Poets

Coffee with the Poets will feature an open mic on Wednesday, December 12, at 10:30 a.m., Phillips and Lloyd Book Shop in Hayesville, NC. We enjoy desserts from Crumpet's Dessertery and everyone can read in a warm, comfortable environment, or just listen if you'd like. This event is sponsored by NCWN West for the promotion of poets and poetry in our area.

Poetry Workshop Meets at Tri-County College

The Poetry Workshop with critique sessions sponsored by the North Carolina Writers' Network West will meet Thursday, December 6, 2007, at Tri-County Community College, McSwain Building (conference room) Murphy, NC, from 7:00 - 9:00 pm. Contact Janice Moore, 828-389-6394 for more information. All NCWN members within driving range are welcome. If you are not a member but like to write poetry, come and observe or bring a poem to read. We are a friendly group and welcome others to visit and hopefully join the Network.

Warne Community Center Christmas Party

The Warne Community center will be hosting their annual christmas Party on tuesday, December 11 at 6:30 p.m. for all residents. Bring a plate of finger foods, and a gift for our fun gift exchange. High Mountain Squares Dance

High Mountain Squares will dance this Wednesday night Dec 12th at the Macon County Community Building from 7:00 to 9:00PM. Hoyle Grose from Asheville NC will be the caller. The Board of Directors of the Hiwassee River Watershed Coalition will meet at the Peachtree Restaurant (NC) on Thursday, December13th at 6:00pm for dinner. The meeting will follow at 6:30pm. Please to be ready to make your reservation for the MOAA Christmas party to be held December 10 at the Old Hiawassee Grill (formerly Fieldstone). The cost will be $31 per attendee, including tax and tip, a cash bar will be available. The restaurant requires a significant deposit by mid November so members were requested to pay at the November meeting.

Writers for Children Workshop

The Writing for Children workshop will meet Wednesday, December 19, from 10:00 am to 12 noon at the Moss Memorial Library in Hayesville, NC. The group meets regularly on the third Wednesday of the month. The focus of the workshop is poetry and stories for children and young adults. Support and advice is offered to writers. Breakfast With Santa

Stecoah Valley Center invites kids of all ages to have Breakfast With Santa. Santa will be making two stops at the Center on Saturday, December 15 and Saturday, December 22, both at 9:30 a.m. The menu includes pancakes, sausage, juice and milk. The cost is $3 per person and pictures with Santa are also available for $5 each. Make your reservations early as seating is limited due to Santa's busy schedule. Open mic follows and the community is invited to read and enjoy the delicious refreshments furnished by the Friends of the Library. Don't miss it!

New Year's Eve Dance Make your reservations now for the New Year's Eve dance party being held at the Hayesville Senior Center. Come celebrate bringing in the New Year with dancing to live music provided by Dave Bartens and enjoy great people, party favors, food buffet and soft drinks.
