Involved in a campaign to raise $1,000,000?
Murphy Medical Center is fortunate to have received much financial support from the citizens of this area when we have asked. Many of our major projects, from the Alzheimer's Unit to bringing orthopedics to this area to expanding the Emergency Department are examples of your generosity. Our foundation oversees all fund raising efforts, serves as the steward of the foundation assets and oversees the disbursements for our hospital, nursing home and Good Shepherd Home Health and Hospice causes. Recently, Mr. Rick Bagley has been representing to the public that he is involved in a campaign to raise $1,000,000 for improvements to the nursing home. Although we appreciate any support from our community to help us serve you better through improved facilities, services and technology, we follow a protocol that requires any campaign to go through the foundation board. This protocol exists to responsibly inform the public of the project to be supported and organize the fund raising efforts to be effective. After explaining this to Mr. Bagley, he proceeded to run paid print and radio ads and a letter to the editor leading the public to believe he is helping with this campaign. Further, he has consistently included either the hospital's name or mine in several letters regarding assisted living or senior living discussions. I am informing the public that there is presently no campaign to raise moneys for the nursing home and that Mr. Bagley is in no way a condoned representative of Murphy Medical Center and should not continue leading the public to believe that he is. I can assume he has good intentions but with his refusal to respect the foundation board's process he is doing more harm than good and has been instructed to cease his activities on our behalf. If anyone wishes to discuss any support of our services or needs we certainly encourage you to contact Ms. Kathi Osborne, our new Foundation Director. We do need your support but we will ask for it in an organized and responsible way.
Respectfully, Mike Stevenson Administrator Murphy Medical Center
