Truett Baptist Children's Home gets some early Christmas Presents
A lot has been happening at the new Truett Baptist Children's Home in Clay County over the last week. Furniture donated by Eller and Owens Furniture was delivered and set-up last week and inspectors from the state visited the home Monday as the TBA prepares to open the local foster home after the first of the year. Responding to a desperate need for foster homes to care for local children, TBA made the decision to provide a home for some of the 117 children currently in the care of the Department of Social Services in Cherokee, Clay and Graham Counties. The association of area Baptist Churches from Cherokee, Clay and Graham Counties is currently raising funds for the home which will house 6 area foster children. A total of approximately $150,000 has already been raised toward the $650,000 that is needed to purchase the home and property which is located in the Shooting Creek area of Clay County. TBA has entered into a contract to lease to purchase the former assisted-living home which sits on two-acres of land. The home has seven bedrooms and is located in a beautiful area of Western North Carolina. Once funds are raised for the first home, a second home at the location which could house as many as 10 children will hopefully also be purchased. The home will be owned by TBA but will be administrated by the Baptist Children's Homes of North Carolina. Two sets of house parents have been hired for the home and a supervisor/case worker has also been named. TBA encourages anyone looking for an end-of-the-year donation or a holiday gift consider giving a gift that will keep on giving for years to come and minister to local children. Those interested in making a contribution may drop donations of at Nantahala Bank or mail them to Truett Baptist Association, 2235 NC Hwy. 141, Marble, NC, 28905.
