Jackets take Second Place at Osley B. Saunooke Tournament

The Yellow Jackets wrestling team placed second at the Osley B. Saunooke Tournament in Cherokee on Saturday, December 15. The Jackets competed against 10 other schools that were 1A, 2A and 3 A. Under the leadership of Coaches Jeremiah Brinke, Neil Setzer and Trainer Wade Byers, the Jackets fnshed overall with 14 pins, 2 first place wins, 3 second place wins, 3 third place wins, and 1 fourth place win. From over 100 wrestlers participating in the tournament, Hayesville's own Tyler Marcoux received the Most Valuable Player award.
Team veterans, Justin Guffey and Tyler Marcoux secured first place in the 119 lb and the 125 lb weight classes respectively. Newcomer Kyle Henrickson (112 lb class) joined with team vets Tyler Benson (225 lb class) and Donovan Byers (285 lb class) for second place. Taking third place were Jeffery Updike (135 lb class), Tim Shaffer (140 lb class), and team captain Kevin McCreary (152 lb class). It's tough being the brother of team manager Anna Hadas but Ryan Hadas (160 lb class) pulled off a fourth place finish.

Other members of the team who helped contribute to the overall second place finish were Sam Lusty (130 lb class), Dakota Lyvers (145 lb class), Tino Scolaro (171 lb class), and Shane Gribble (189 lb class). The Jackets will travel again to Cherokee on December 28 and 29 for the EBCI tournament.
