BUSINESS AFTER HOURS

Just an early reminder that our first Business After Hours for 2008 will be held at 5:30pm, January 14th at the WNGM Radio Station Offices in Hiawassee. As a special treat, James Reaux and staff from the Sequoyah/ Old Cherokee Grille will be catering this BAH, so the the food will certainly be fabulous.

I want to encourage everyone that is able to attend to do so. Let's kick 2008 off with a strong business gatherring at WNGM!

NCWN WEST PROSE WORKSHOP AND CRITIQUE

GROUP

The NCWN West Prose Workshop and Critique group meets Thursday, January 10 at 7:00 p.m. in the McSwain Building at Tri-County Community College in Murphy, NC. Contact Richard Argo, 828-837-5500 for more information. If you write fiction, personal essays, or memoir, you will find this group helpful. Non-members are welcome to come and observe and ask questions.

THE FIRST POETS AND

WITERS

The first Poets and Writers Reading Poems and Stories for 2008 will be held at John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, NC at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 21. Two writers are featured each month. Richard Argo, fiction writer, from Murphy, NC and Peg Russell who will read poetry are featured this month. The community is invited to enjoy this free and interesting hour with our mountain writers. This program is sponsored by North Carolina Writers Network West and the Folk School.

FIRESIDE FRIDAY

Fireside Friday, a fun-filled evening of music and reading of original poems and stories, is held on the second Friday of every month at the Shoppes of Murphy in Murphy, NC.

WRITING FOR CHILDREN WORKSHOP

If you write poems or stories for children, join Nancy Gadsby and her group at the Moss Memorial Library in Hayesville, NC on Wednesday, January 16 at 10:00 a.m. Support and advice is offered. MONTHLY REPUBLICAN MEETING

The Republican will hold their monthly meeting on January 16 at Brothers Restaurant. Dinner at 6:00 and meeting at 7:00. Carl Mumpower will be there to talk with us. He is a candidate for Congress for this, the 11th district. Everyone is welcome. Call Donna Dockery for more information 644-5022.

NORTH CAROLINA DEMOCRATIC WOMEN

North Carolina Democratic Women will meet Friday, January 18th at the Murphy House in Murphy to form one or more area Chapters for the counties of Cherokee, Clay and Graham. The lunch time meeting will be from Noon to 1:30 p.m. Reservations are nor required. The Murphy House is located north of downtown on Business Hwy 19 in the strip mall containing Ashley Furniture. Shirley Roberts, Director of the 11th District Democratic Women will travel from Mars Hill to be the speaker. Discussion will center around forming one Tri-County Chapter or individual county groups or combinations there of. Bylaws, dues structure and officers will be discussed and voted on by those in attendance. The purpose of the statewide organization is to support the principals of the Democratic Party and promote its growth, to encourage women seeking public office, to participate in Democratic Party activities. to work for the election if Democratic candidates and to assist Democratic Women's organizations on the County, District and State level. The 11th Congressional District is the largest in the state comprising 15 counties. All registered Democratic women are encouraged to attend. OLD UNICOI TRAIL CHAPTER NATIONAL SOCIETY of the DAR JANUARY MEETING

The January meeting of the DAR Chapter will be held at The Old Hiawassee Grille Fireside Room in Hiawassee, GA Saturday,

January 12, 2008 at 10:15 AM. Luncheon cost is $11. Joan Wallace will present the program, "An American Indian's Heritage."

Old Unicoi Chapter serves Towns, Union and Fannin Counties.
