Russian music, dance ensemble takes the stage
Combined troupes' performance with an appeal to all ages

Russian group Moscow Nights and Golden Gates will perform folk music and dance in a concert presented by Brasstown Concert Association, Sunday January 20, 2:30pm at the Peacock Playhouse in Hayesville NC.

Brasstown Concert Association (BCA) will present Moscow Nights and Golden Gates in a lively performance of Russian folk music and dance Sunday, January 20 at 2:30pm at the Peacock Playhouse in Hayesville, NC.

The talented, prize-winning trio of Moscow Nights musicians will be joined by singers and dancers aged 5 -15 from the Golden Gates company. With a rich program of Russian folk music played on traditional instruments, the program offers a unique and authentic glimpse of Old Russia. From masterpieces of Russian folklore and elaborate lyrical suites to toe-tapping dance numbers and gently mischevious songs, the program promises to be a delightful afternoon's entertainment.

Moscow Nights was formed in the late 1980s in Kaluga, Russia under the initial direction of Vitaliy Bezrodnov. Upon completion of their Conservatory studies, they regrouped in 1996 in the United States. The group has met with raves reviews due to their considerable talents and infectious enthusiasm.The Golden Gates company was created in St. Petersburg in 1993. This the fifth tour of the United States for the highly acclaimed, combined ensemble of musicians, dancers and singers. They have won numerous prizes in international competitions and festivals.

This concert is sponsored by Blue Ridge Mountain EMC. "We're so appreciative of area businesses such as Blue Ridge Mountain EMC who give back to their community by supporting special cultural opportunities like this one," says Karen Borchers, BCA president.

Borchers emphasized the performance will be held at the Peacock Playhouse in Hayesville rather than BCA's usual venue of the Folk School. "We needed a larger stage to accommodate all the wonderful musicians and dancers, plus we hope to have a full house since this will be such a great family-oriented event," Borchers stated. "Everyone is encouraged to bring their family and friends with them to the performance." No reservations are required and seating is by general admission.
