George Herbert Lee

Herbert Lee
George Herbert Lee, age 87, of Lee Street, Hayesville, NC died Thursday, January 3, 2008 at his home.

He was a native of Towns County, GA. George was the son of the late John H. and Trecie Shook Lee. He was preceded in death by one brother, Frank Lee; and three sisters, Oma Morgan, Mary Lou Aubrey, and Hubbie Nelson. He was a member of the Clay Lodge #301 AF and AM., and the Clay County, V.F.W. Post #6812. He was a member and a Deacon of Downings Creek Baptist Church. George was a World War II Army Veteran and served in the Pacific Theater where he received a Purple Heart. He was a retired plumber, enjoyed people and bringing a smile to everyone's face.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Louise Brown Lee; one daughter, Frances Jean Dyer and her husband, Roger of Suwannee, GA; two sisters. Helen Lawhorne of Titusville, Fl. and Blanch Ledford of Hayesville, NC.; two grandchildren, Renee Cummings and her husband Mike of Lawrenceville, GA and Jamie Dyer and his wife, Anna of Starksville, MS.; and two greatgrandchildren, Haley and Hunter Cummings.

Funeral services, with Masonic

rites were held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, January 5, 2008 at the Townson Rose, Frank Rose Sr. Memorial Chapel in Hayesville, NC. The Rev. Todd Chester and Rev. Jackie Sellers officiated. Pallbearers were Deacons of the Church, Ronnie Smith, Larry Sellers, Sam Beck, Ben Rogers, Steve Smith Ivane Elliott and James Smart.

Burial was in the Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Peachtree, NC with Military Graveside rites conducted by Veterans Organizations:

Murphy V.F.W. Post #10222, Joe Miller Elkin American Legion Post #96 and D.A.V. Chapter #73 and Clay County V.F.W. Post #6812.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made In Memory of George Herbert Lee to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1193, Hayesville, NC 28904.
