Jessie Swanson Penland
She was a hairdresser by vocation but her chosen career was that of wife, mother and grandmother. She lived a life of love and devotion in the finest of Christian spirit. Even after Alzheimer disease had taken away her ability to communicate, she could still sing her favorite hymns. She was a longtime member of Oak Forest United Methodist Church where she taught children's Sunday school and sang in the choir.S he was the daughter of Charles Z. and Mae Green Swanson and was preceded in death by four sisters and a brother. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Alvin L. Penland. She is survived by one son Charles L. Penland and his wife Penny of Hayesville, four grandchildren and their families, Laurie Shook and her husband Jason and children Brady, Emma and Ava, Amy Trout and her husband Brian and daughter Lily, Will Penland and Jill Penland. Services were held on Tuesday, January 8th at Oak Forest United Methodist Church with the Reverends Jacob Kyker and Jeff Turner officiated. Pall Bearers were Will Penland, Jason Shook, Brian Trout, Keith Crawford, Kevin Crawford and Kelly Crawford. Memorials should be made to the Oak Forest UMC Building Fund, PO Box 152, Hayesville, NC. 28904.
