Scottish roots & needle felted dolls at Yarn Circle

The last few days of January will be a busy time at Yarn Circle with sessions hosted be special guests.

On Saturday, January 26, Yarn Circle will be featuring the internationally recognized Norman Kennedy for a spinning demonstration and tea party. Kennedy, a native of Aberdeen Scotland, is a master weaver, spinner, knitter and singer. He is a recent recipient of the National Endowment of the Arts Fellowship as "a master traditional artist who has contributed to preserving the cultural continuity between American textile traditions and their Scottish roots". The community is invited to join Yarn Circle in welcoming Kennedy at 12 noon. There is no charge.

On Monday January 28, Kay Patterson will begin a two part class on needle felted dolls and figures. Kay will start with heads then progress to bodies enabling students to sculpt colorful wool into their favorite characters using the tiny barbed felting needle tool. Kay is a frequent teacher at the John C. Campbell Folk School. This class will meet from 2-4 p.m. on the 28th and again on February 11. The cost is $20 per session plus materials. Pre-registration is required to ensure a place.

Yarn Circle is a full service

fiber store featuring yarns, weaving and spinning equipment, books, instruction and accessories from around the world. Together propietors Pam Howard and Martha Own have over fifty years of experience in the fiber arts and are Resident Craftspeople at the Campbell Folk School.
