Giving us a voice
Robert Orr is a husband and father of four children. Born in Norfolk, Virginia but residing in Hendersonville, NC, he has been in the area for over 60 years and has dedicated his promise to giving Western North Carolina a voice. "I feel that Western North Carolina has been consistently forgotten about in state government, in this mindset that North Carolina ends somewhere around I-77. This was far too prevalent as far as I was concerned, I want to give Western North Carolina a voice," Orr says. Some would say, "He is putting us back on the maps", as far as government goes. Orr addresses his top three issues of North Carolina. He simply wishes to restore the government with an honest an open one. "Corruption and secrecy have diminished the people's trust. As governor I will work to restore faith in our government," Orr says. He will do this by reforming our tax system to weed out the influence of special interests. Meeting the heightened demand of the health care system, roads and infrastructure as our state adds an estimated 4 million residents by the year 2030 is another issue he addresses. "The current drought has shown us how growth can impact our natural resources. We need to address this problem now to prevent bigger problems in the future." Improving our public education system to the level of the 21st century workforce is also a goal he would like North Carolina to reach. He says, "I am committed to making sure that we take the necessary steps to grant each and every child the opportunity to succeed." Not only does his impressive background qualify him for governor, but it also shows just how willing of his time he is. Presently as a member of the Board of Directors for the Wake County 1st Tee Program, Board of Directors for the Central YMCA, Board of Visitors of North Carolina Central School of Law and a mentor for the past 10 years, Orr has proved his dedication for the betterment of North Carolina. He currently has also been a counsel for Kelly & Rowe since 2007. Some of his past work experience include holding the seat for Executive Director of the North Carolina Institute for Constitutional Law from 2004 to 2007. He is very familiar with the teachings of Law, being an Adjunct Professor of Law at UNC School of Law, North Carolina Central School of Law and at Campbell University School of Law from 1990 to 2004 and also practicing law at a private law practice in Asheville, North Carolina. Serving as the Justice of North Carolina Supreme Court from 1995 to 2004 and also as Judge for the North Carolina Court of Appeals from 1986 to 1994, he is also very familiar with the court system. From 1981 to 1982, Orr was the District Administrative Assistant to Congressman Bill Hendon.
