Learn more about your genealogy

Syndicated columnist Larry Van Horn will speak at the Friends of Murphy Library pot luck dinner Tuesday, February 19, at 6PM.

In the last ten years he has taught classes at Tri County Community College including Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced Genealogy; Genealogy and the Internet; Organizing Your Genealogy; Hidden Genealogy Sources, and Using Family Tree Maker and Master Genealogists Software. He works with the local legal community researching difficult probate cases, and is a member of Tri-State Genealogy Society, Sons of Confederate Veterans, Nicolas Martiau Descendants Association and the National Genealogy Society.

He is working toward his credentials as a Certified Genealogist, Lecturer, and Instructor through the United States Board for Certification of Genealogists.

Retired from the U. S. Navy, where he earned the Navy's highest peacetime medal, the Navy Commendation Medal, he works at Grove Enterprises as editor of an international communications magazine and staff journalist. He has written six books, dozens of magazine features, and hundreds of technical articles.

Van Horn, family historian for thirty years, is presently researching more than 140 family surnames and has documented nearly 30,000 ancestors and descendants in compiling his family genealogy.
