Genealogy Classes

Patti Scott
Patti Scott will teach Beginning Genealogy Classes at Murphy Public Library Thursday evenings Feb 21, 28, and March 6, from 6 to 8:30PM. Enrollment is limited to eight.

Scott, whose maiden name is Ledford, began studying genealogy with her great-grandmother when she was fifteen. Her family has lived in Cherokee County since the 1830's.

She has been teaching genealogy classes for fifteen years, and currently has two ongoing classes at Penland Senior Center on Tuesday and Wednesday at 1PM.

Her hands-on classes cover finding and using records, using the computer (ancestry. com and heritage quest programs are available for use free at the library), information on death certificates, actual census forms on the computer, information and discrepancies on census records, etc.

People may sign up at the circulation desk. There is no fee for this class.
