A passion for patients
Why is certification so important? It takes a significant amount of skill and knowledge to competently administer the various therapies ordered by physicians. Some IV therapies treat diseases and disorders such as arthritis, anemia, infection, immune disorder and cancer. Nurse Gore has been trained to recognize potential complications and risk factors. Stationed in Same Day Care Unit, Nurse Gore has comfortable recliners for her patients to relax in while receiving their treatments. "I have patients who come from work, get their treatment and go right back to work," Nurse Gore said. "Coming to Murphy Medical Center is very convenient for them, they don't have to travel for hours and waste a whole day." Lucy McKenzie is one of Nurse Gore's patients. "I've been coming here for the past three years," said McKenzie. "It so good that we have this here; so good that it's convenient. I come here three times a week, and then go on to work. Otherwise I'd have to travel to Blue Ridge (Georgia) for my treatments." "This certification validates and recognizes my specialized knowledge, skills, experience and competent practice," Gore said. "It is a personal accomplishment which gives me satisfaction in professional growth, enhances my credibility and promotes accountability." By earning this certification, Gore is committed to staying current with national standards of practice and care. "I am proud that Murphy Medical Center supported me the way they did," Gore said. She studied every day for about four months, listening to tapes on her drive to work. "I am proud of Katie, her accomplishments and her commitment to excellence in nursing care," said Connie Ensley, RN SDCU Manager. "She is an important part of the staffing Same Day Care and a role model for other RNs." Gore and her husband, Frank own a full working farm in the Unaka community. Together they raise llama, sheep, and four different poultry including 120 guinea hens. The four dogs and two cats round out their farm, but the real ruler of the farm is their pet rooster. Every evening at near dusk the rooster waits for Gore to pick him up for a truck ride back to the barn; there he spends the night roosting with the hens. Although Nurse Gore stays busy with the farm, her true passion is her work at Murphy Medical Center. She is totally dedicated to her patient's well being, safety and comfort. "Katie always does the little things; she puts on make-up, goes out of her way to look fresh for us all day," says McKenzie. "She shares her recipes, including my favorite- pumpkin cheesecake and makes sure my lunch is just right. She never complains, just keeps a smile for us.
Murphy Medical Center is proud of Katie Gore and her commitment to provide quality care to our patients.
