TCCC Board of Trustees Report
President's Report - Dr. Donna Tipton-Rogers Enrollment is up 140 students for the Spring semester For the first time, staff from Tri-County Community College, Southwestern Community College and Haywood Community College are planning to meet to discuss ways the three can work together to provide new programs to the region. TCCC has started on the reaffirmation process for accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The reaccreditation will take place in 2010. The process includes Compliance Certification, which evaluates the college on a set of standards, and a Quality Enhancement Plan, which is a project developed by the college and centered on student learning outcomes. TCCC recently completed a Long-Range Plan at the request of the North Carolina Community College System office. The plan gathered data from a variety of sources to identify demographic, educational, and economic projections. Some information gathered from the process includes: 19.5% enrollment growth, mostly in college transfer courses; need for increased healthcare programs and training; need for increased public service training for EMTs, law enforcement, etc.; growth in ESL and GED programs; more programs geared toward those 65 and older and more. Facilities needs were identified as classroom space, computer labs, and a performing arts/civic center. At the request of Al Lovingood and the Building and Grounds committee, the Board approved an Agreement for Planning Services for TCCC Facility Master Plan with Clark Patterson Lee architects. The plan is part of the Long-Range Plan required by the community college system office. The Board approved Student Fees for 2007-08. Carol Wishon reported that the TCCC Early College High School and dual enrolled high school students now make up 26% of TCCC's students and that this has brought the average age down to the mid-20s.
The Board approved the employment contract for President Dr. Donna Tipton- Rogers.
