Murphy Medical Center supports Senior Games
"We are delighted with Murphy Medical Center's support and truly appreciate their help in making a local Senior Games competition a reality for Cherokee, Clay and Graham County residents," Keffer said. "This is the first year we will have local state-sanctioned game competition." Mike Stevenson stated, "Supporting health-promoting programs like the Senior Games is just one way Murphy Medical Center fulfills its mission to make our community a healthier and better place to live. With this support, we hope to make a lasting difference in the health and fitness of the seniors we serve." North Carolina Senior Games, Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing year-round health promotion and education for adults 55 years of age and older. Senior Games include competition in a range of sports including badminton, basketball, bowling, golf, horseshoes, and track events. Included in non-sport competition are visual arts, performing arts, literary arts and heritage arts.
Participants report that Senior Games motivate them to maintain regular fitness programs, and once they participate in Senior Games they are likely to remain in their programs because of the benefits of fellowship, friends, health, fun and competition.
