Local teen honored by the Humane Society of the United States

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) recently honored a very special local teenager, Miss Tiffany Jourdain, for her outstanding work and the tireless effort that she puts into saving the lives of so many stray, abused and abandoned animals in our area. Tiffany is the daughter of Tina & Buster Peters of Murphy, NC and is a National Honor Student at Hiawassee Dam High School with the goal of becoming a Veterinary Doctor some day.

Tiffany was secretly nominated for the Humane Teen of the Year Award for 2008, sponsored by the HSUS. HSUS Humane Teen is a nationwide group of special, caring, hardworking young people that help animals by supporting their local animal organizations.

Although Tiffany did not win Humane Teen 2008 Award, The HSUS has Honored Tiffany by asking her to serve on their Teen Advisory Board and what an honor that is! Tiffany has been involved with our local shelter, the Valley River Humane Society since she was eleven years old. Now at sixteen she is still very involved and is an expert in finding foster homes, permanent homes and rescues for many dogs & cats and even a bunny. Countless animals lives have been saved through Tiffany's tireless efforts.

Tiffany is on the telephone and computer a lot, never giving up working to help save these animals lives. She will tell you " I know I can't save them all, but I can save this one!" Tiffany is a remarkable young lady, full of energy, determination and compassion for the animals that have no voice of their own. Her favorite saying is "SPAY AND NEUTER"!

We are so fortunate to have such a talented and caring young lady living in our community. Congratulations Tiffany!!! Keep up the good work...We are all so very proud of you!!!!
