Pacesetters Invitational to be held at Brasstown Valley
Western Carolina Pacesetters in sponsorship with The Club Shoppe of Murphy announced earlier this week that the First Pacesetters Invitational, a stroke play event for amateur golfers, will be held March 22nd at Brasstown Valley Resort in Young Harris. This one day shootout features a limited field of golfers per flight playing their ball down and putting out.
Although stroke play events were once held in this area, tournament golf in the region today has evolved into two and four person select shot events. Pacesetters Invitational hopes to rekindle interest in golf as played by individuals testing their skills against others of similar ability. The Invitational will feature three distinct flights of golfers: Championship, First Flight, and Second Flight.
Individuals invited to play have been pre-flighted based on established handicaps and personal knowledge of their level of play. The Invitational is limited to true amateurs over the age of 21 as of February 1, 2008. The Tournament Committee also voted to exclude professional golf instructors and active collegiate golf team members. Co-sponsorships for Pacesetters Invitational are $100 and Community Sponsorships are $60. Proceeds from sponsorships will benefit Pacesetters Adventure Center located in Marble. Pacesetters is a federal and state not for profit youth services agency providing experiential learning experiences for youth in the five counties of western North Carolina.
