TCCC Names Academic Excellence Award Winners
Each year, the state recognizes two students from each community college with an Academic Excellence Award. For the past eight years, this special event has provided a unique opportunity for the Community College System to showcase its students and their academic achievements, as well as highlight the work that the colleges do each and every day. The awards will be presented during the North Carolina Community College System Academic Excellence Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, April 16, 2008, at the Hilton North Raleigh. TCCC students are nominated by faculty and then two individuals are selected by a committee. Recipients must be currently enrolled, have completed at least 12 semester hours in an Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, Associate of Applied Science, or Associate of General Studies degree, and have a cumulative grade point average of not less than 3.25. This year 18 students were nominated for the awards. Nominees were Amy Allen, Lillian Blomeley, Ashley Brown, Misty Davenport, Theresa Edwards, Justin Foley, Jodi Hall, Ginger Hubbard, Kathryn Jones, Peter MacAluso, Melissa McClure, Jessica Pillen, Madeline Rizzo, Erin Rogers, Amanda Sorensen, and Alexandra Spiva. Last years recipients were Felicia Smith and Sarah Caldwell. They are both currently enrolled in the Nursing Program.
