Dr. Andrews Speaks to MOAA

Dr. Ellen Andrews spoke to the Blue Ridge Mountains Chapter of the MIlitary Officers Association of America at the monthly meeting on Monday March 10th at Crossroads Restaurant. Dr. Andrews is a retired neurologist whose experiences treating patients with the debilitating effects of diabetes led her to see a need for educating the public about this disease and its resulting complications. She is enthusiastic about educating the public about the basics of diabetes, how it affects our bodies, and how it can be managed. Chapter President Walt Shumway presented Dr. Andrews with a certificate of appreciation for her unselfish and tireless efforts on diabetes education to our Chapter.

The Blue Ridge Mountains Chapter of MOAA kicked off its 2008 Membership drive at this meeting as part of a nationwide MOAA recruiting program with a goal of at least 10 new members for each chapter this year. The local chapter serves a four-county area including Towns and Union in Georgia and Clay and Cherokee in North Carolina. Membership is open to all active duty, National Guard, REserve, retired and former officers and warrant officers from all branches of the uniformed services. Our meetings are held on the third Monday of the month at various local restaurants. Anyone interested in attending a meeting should contact Jim Reynolds in Georgia at 706-379-6601 or John Bayne in North Carolina at 828-389-9427.
