Krummhorns? Gemshorns? Shawms? Concert of Early Music in Brasstown
"The last concert of BCA's 34th season will be a wonderful finale with an afternoon of rollicking music from the Musica Vera Consort" says Karen Borchers, BCA president. "This group's colorful costumes and unusual instruments will appeal to a wide audience." The ensemble of ten musicians performs on historical reproductions of musical instruments. Formed over 20 years ago by Prof. Kitts-Turner, Musica Vera plays one of the most varied collections of medieval, Renaissance and Baroque instruments in the United States. In addition to the krummhorns, shawms and sackbutts, audience members will see and hear racketts, viols, gemshorns, keyless flutes and an assortment of recorders. Rosemarie Kelischek, BCA board member, adds that "Prof. Kitts-Turner's entertaining and informative remarks will increase the audience's enjoyment and sense of fun." The program for Sunday will include music ranging not only from the medieval and Renaissance eras, but also an American Indian dance melody played on Native American flutes, an Irish folk song, 1920's swing tune and other compositions. Musica Vera performs for various concert associations, festivals and scholarly events. They are the featured performers at the boisterous annual Hoggetown Medieval Faire in Gainesville FL, playing 19 concerts in a five day period. No reservations are required and seating is by general admission. Ticket costs are $14 for adults and $7 for students. Tickets will be sold beginning at 1:30pm on Sunday, April 6 at Keith House. Tel. 828 389-2595 or brasstownconcert@gmail. com for information.
This concert is supported by the North Carolina Arts Council, an agency funded by the State of North Carolina and the National Endowment for the Arts.
