Madelyn Lea Memorial Music Scholarship Fund
"The purpose of this fund is to support the mission of the Joanna Cornerstone Ministries," explained Executive Director Cecilia Champion. "With these endowed scholarships, we will be able to help students meet their educational goals." The Madelyn Lea Memorial Music Scholarship was established through the combined efforts of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and Ledford's Chapel Methodist Church in memory of Madelyn Lea who served as the accompanist at both churches. This scholarship is for Clay County seniors and current undergraduates who play to major or Joanna Cornerstone CALENDAR minor in music or music related fields. Ministries is a faith-based CALENDAR organization serving area high school students through encouragement, guidance, counseling and scholarships. "We see our mission as building foundations for the future," Champion said. Founded in 1978, The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina holds more than $143 million in charitable assets for the 18-county mountain region. The Community Foundation's mission is to promote regional philanthropy and develop community capital. According to Foundation President Pat Smith, "One of our most powerful tools in carrying out our mission is the creation of endowments, which generate long term, stable income for charitable organizations to use in meeting our region's changing needs." The Foundation holds permanent endowments for more than 100 nonprofit organizations and civic clubs cross the region. Students interested in applying for this scholarship may get an application from the Hayesville High School Guidance office or from Joanna Cornerstone Ministries.
