Advocate makes Stand for Sexual Assault
Eileen Streight, community support worker for Murphy Counseling Services, former sexual assault advocate for Reach of Clay County, once again takes a 2-mile stand for SOAR,( Speak Out Against Rape), the national awareness organization, by skydiving this April 26th. Eileen is asking local businesses and residents to help her raise $600 towards her jump to raise money for awareness. April is special for her, not only because it is Sexual Awareness Month but it is her birthday and the month she became a survivor over twenty years ago. It is her intention to show women especially in our area that even after a trauma such as rape and sexual assault anything is possible and you have the right to live as you want and experience all that life has to offer and sky is the limit. Eileen would like to thank those who already have contributed to this great cause. Tom Thomas, The Boat HOuse, in Hiawassee, Dr. Susan Fredrickson, Murphy Counseling Services psychiatrist, and The Copperhead Lodge in Blairsville, for their 50/50 raffle on bike night held Thursday evening. She will be coming out to local businesses to ask for your donations towards this incredible event. Eileen will do a follow up article to describe the event and thank those who sponsored her.
