"Reaching Out and Serving Hispanic Families in WNC" Seminar May 12th, 2008 The 30th Judicial District Alliance will be hosting a "How to Reach Out and Serve Hispanic Families in WNC" seminar on Monday, May 12th, 2008 in Hayesville. This seminar will cover the basics about working with Hispanic Families. The seminars targets non Latinos who work or will work with Latinos in their human service organizations. This is an introductory level seminar. Persons already familiar or working with the Hispanic community may find this program too basic. The cost for the seminar is $10.00 and it will cover a full breakfast and lunch. Space is limited to 30 agency participants. This seminar will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Hinton Rural Life Center located at 2330 Hinton Center Road, Hayesville, NC 28904. Breakfast and registration will run from 8 to 8:45 am, conference starts at 9:00 am. Deadline for registration is April 28th, 2008 This highly interactive seminar will provide an overview of the cultural characteristics of Hispanic persons in North Carolina, along with specific strategies for improving your organization's capacity to serve this fast growing population. Seminar content will include: * A demographic overview of the Hispanic population in NC including current county level data. * A general review of why many Hispanics to come to North Carolina, and the consequences of their arrival. * An overview of the major cultural and communication issues that often impede the delivery of services to this population. * Strategies for developing effective outreach training of staff and volunteers and improving your organizational capacity to serve Hispanic clients.
