(STECOAH, N.C. April 21, 2008): Plans for the annual Smoky Mountain Romp & Ramps Festival are well underway in Graham County, at the far western tip of North Carolina, about an hour and a half southwest of Asheville. With events that celebrate the environment and traditional mountain life, including music, native plants, food and fellowship, the festival runs April 26 - 27.

The festival begins Saturday with a ramp dinner 5:30 - 7 p.m. and the Romp - Stompin' Blue Ridge Rounders performs a concert at 7:30 p.m. Both events take place at the historic Stecoah Valley Cultural Arts Center.

The authentic Appalachian dinner - a sit down meal served family style, will include pork with sautéed ramps and mushrooms on the side, apple dressing, green beans, corn casserole, cheese and ramp biscuits, corn bread and mixed berry cobbler topped with ice cream for dessert, Dinner prices are $12 for adults, $9 for students ages 6-17 and $5 for children 5 and under.

After dinner, the Blue Ridge Rounders take to the historic stage at the Center for the Romp Stompin' concert. A group described as a fun loving old-time string band whose music rides the cusp of the old mountain way to the traditional bluegrass sound. Concert tickets are $6 for adults, $2 for students 6-17, and free for children 5 and under.

Dinner and concert combination tickets are also available: $15 for adults, $10 for students and $5 for children 5 and under. For more information and/or reservations, call 828-479-3364 or visit www. StecoahValleyCenter.com.

Stecoah Valley Cultural Arts Center is located at 121 Schoolhouse Road in the Stecoah community off Hwy 28 between Bryson City and Fontana Dam. Located in a restored 1926 schoolhouse, it has become a gathering place for cultural events and community workshops since its renovation in 1996.

A second ramp dinner takes place on Sunday, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Rescue Squad building on Moose Branch Road in Robbinsville. Sponsored by the Graham County Rescue Squad, the dinner is a local tra- dition that supports the squad and volunteers who help the community. Dinner choices include fish or chicken dinners and - yes! - Ramps.

Adding to the fun of the annual event is the Family Fun Fest, 12 - 3 p.m. at the Robbinsville Elementary School gymnasium, offering free activities for children to age 18 and their families. For more information,
