Over the River and Though the Woods to the Peacock Playhouse Go

Wayne Roshaven of Blairsville plays Frank, one of the very funny and loveable grandfathers in the Peacock Playhouse's Over the River and through the Woods.
Anyone who has been married for a good number of years will relate to the four grandparents who get together each Sunday for dinner with their beloved grandson, Nick. In a game of trivia they communicate as only older married couples can by identifying answers saying, "You know, the one with the ears." And, wait until you hear how they get the answer to the question, "Who was the U.S. writer who was the ambassador to Spain in 1842?" Nick is continually both amazed and exasperated. Betty Rowland of Franklin, Wayne Roshaven of Blairsville, Tom Payne of Murphy, and Constance Wylamski of Peachtree make a hilarious and loveable ensemble as they try to keep their grandson from accepting a promotion that will take him across the country.

Theatergoers will recognize and enjoy three actors who have brought their talents to the Licklog Players in previous years, and they will meet a new addition to the players, Constance Wylamski who moved to the area from Cheboygan, Michigan. Wylamski has been involved in theater since elementary school and was one of the seven founders of the Northland Players in Michigan. From the little group of seven who started with one play performed at the local high school, the group grew to over 200 active members who performed at the area's historical and beautiful Opera House that they restored. Wylamski is especially proud of the up to date lighting board at the Opera House. She became interested in lighting and her designs are still used. She has directed plays and also has taught children's groups. The Licklog Players feel lucky to welcome this talented lady.

Audiences will remember three of the grandparents who have brought a lot of enjoyment over the years. Tom Payne performs both in musicals and plays. It would not be a proper season without his presence. He was last seen in Miracle on 34th Street. He has a gift for comedy and will be using this ability in Over the River and through the Woods. To say he is energetic is an understatement. During last week's rehearsals, he spent the day teaching clogging at the Folk School and then arrived at the theater to rehearse all evening.

Wayne Roshaven is also multitalented appearing in both musicals and plays. He was Elwood P. Dowd in last season's well-received, Harvey, also directed by Vianne Payne (no relation to Tom). Roshaven also does some acting at the Blue Ridge Theater last appearing there in Lend Me a Tenor. One standout musical performance with Licklog was some years ago as one of the fantastic barbershop quartet in The Music Man.

Betty Rowland began her appearances with the Licklog Players as Lady Ravenscroft in the mystery, Ravenscroft. She also has appeared in Cheaper by the Dozen. Miracle on 34th Street, and as Frau Schmidt in the very popular Sound of Music.

Rounding out the cast is Michael Lindsey as Nick and Janice Minette as the would be girlfriend, Caitlin.

The play will run May 30-31 and June 1st and June 6-8. Tickets are $13 for adults and $8 for students. Evening performances are Friday and Saturday and begin at 8 with Sunday matinees at 2:30. Call 828-389-8632 or 877-691-9906 for further information. The play is sponsored by Brasstown Valley Resort. Be sure not to miss a fun evening.
